Recently I've been experiencing some noise on SACD's and since several other outlaws have the same player (Pioneer Elite DV-47Ai) I thought I'd ask if anyone else has had any similar troubles. The noise is somewhat elusive in nature. It's a static-like white noise that slowly grows in level. Sometimes I won't zero in on it until the disc is into the second track or so. Pausing the disc stops the noise dead. Press play and the noise starts right back up again. Many different titles have exhibited this behavior but not all the time. I haven't been able to establish a pattern as to when it will or won't act up. DVD-audio discs and red book CD's play perfectly everytime.

I've got more troubleshooting to do but I thought I'd get this posted now. Hope to get some free time during the holiday to get this pinned down. I hope it isn't the Pioneer 'cause I really like this player otherwise.

My system was acting up again this morning but I had a little time to do some cable swapping and to my surprise I narrowed the problem down to a power amp. I wanted to get the word out because I know there are some readers of this forum who are shopping for a universal player and may be considering the Pioneer and I didn't want to discourage anyone. The DV-47Ai is a great player and I wouldn't want to give a false impression.
This has turned out to be a very curious problem though. Why only on SACD's? My pet theory is that SACD's, with their very wide bandwidth (up to 100kHz if I'm not mistaken),contain some spurious ultrasonic signal present that triggers the noise in the amp. I haven't dug into the amp itself yet...stay tuned.

I have around 15 SACD's and also the 47Ai player and there are no problems on my end. Sounds like it is your player since it only happens with SACD discs. A buddy of mine has the Toshiba 9200 and it made a whirring sound when spinning discs, he had to take it to a shop for a fix. The 9200 has been widley known for this, but the 47Ai has had no such problems mentioned.
