I am considering purchasing a Denon DVD-2200 for its SACD/DVD-A capabilities. I have owned two Denon CD players as well as a Sony DVD player with SACD capability.

My current players are the Denon DCM-460 and Sony DVP-NS500V.

In my experience the Denon players have a "warmer" sound, while the CD sound of the Sony just sounds "digital" for lack of a better term. I never play CDs on the Sony because the sound is not acceptable to me, and I don't consider myself an audiophile...

At any rate, I came across what appears to be a decent comparison review between the relatively new Denon DVD-2200 and DVD-2900 units. After perusing some of the posts here I think some folks might appreciate the opportunity to read the review.

Are there any issues that I need to consider regarding using the DVD-2200 and Outlaw 1050 receiver, such as connecting the units, etc.? I am still somewhat of a newbie when it comes to AV/multi-channel gear.

I wouldn't see any issues at all with using a Denon 2200 and Outlaw 1050. Connect the 2200's multichannel analog outputs to the 1050's multichannel analog in and go to down. I'd hook up the digital audio as well, for regular DVD (Dolby Digital and DTS) and CD playback, but there's no reason you couldn't experiment with using the 2200's decoders and DACs for those as well and decide which you like more.

By the way, the 1050's Surround 6.1 can be applied to the multichannel analog input -- not something I'd recommend for DVD-A and SACD, but it would let you use the Surround 6.1 processing on DTS tracks if you wanted to. Also, if you are only running a 5.1 speaker setup and have had problems with the latest batch of EX flagged discs (Chamber of Secrets being sort of the poster child for that group), you can use the 2200's DD decoder and circumvent the problem.

If you get the 2200, let us know how you like it. It's a unit that has piqued my curiousity, and probably several others around here.

Do any of you know if the DVD-2200 has the necessary bass management features for a 1050 with a sat/sub speaker system?

The 2200 does have bass management on DVD's (Dolby Digital and DTS), DVD-Audio, and SACD. It is limited to an 80Hz crossover point in all three cases, which isn't quite as flexible as the 1050's adjustable crossover but could work fine depending on the speakers being used.
