I'm in the process of finally upgrading the power/control end of things here. I have a def. tech speaker set up using C/L/R 2300's for all three up front speakers. This due to built in bookcases I inherited with great new house. And their BP1.2X surrounds. I'm very pleased with the speaker set up, but know with this Kenwood VR517 (it was FREE) I'm not getting any good from them yet. So...paired with the 950 would anyone out there recommend the 7100 v the 755. Also again due to my architectural situation, there is little likelihood I will ever run more than a 5.1 system. And I had better be buried in the backyard of this house. I'm done moving. All advice will be welcomed as I'm ready to pull the trigger on this purchase.

Well..if you want to get the most of your 2300's, the 755 is the way to go. They love power, and the more you give them, them more they open up. My 2300 was alright with a Elite receiver, but once I put some decent power to them, it sounded like a much much bigger speaker. I say pass up the 7100 and don't look back. 755 all the way Uh Oh...I just realized you have the very tiny 1.2X's as surrounds. Their average impedance is around 5 or 6 when tested. Def tech doesnt bloat their power handling #'s like some so you might be safe with the 755 amp. 1.2x's handle what on paper? 125 watts? At 5 or 6 ohms the 755 will be doing 250 atleast. Do some research and make a decision. Good luck! and get back to us! ------------------ Play it LoUd!!

I've got Jamo 200's for the rears in my system.. they recommend 50W nominal and 80w max and I'm running them off the 755..
As long as you're not trying to make yourself deaf you should be fine (or the speakers should be fine) no matter how much power you send back there....

Jamo is another company that underrates their speakers power handling. I hope he checks back in here to see responses, LOL ------------------ Play it LoUd!!

I really thank you for taking the time to offer up your thoughts. I talked to Def Tech and they say as far as they're concerned the biggest problem they see with their speakers (within reason) is too little power leading to distortion and therefore bigger problems. They say not to worry since it is unlikely I'll ever really toss them so much power they'll complain.

Have you considered the 770? You may never go 7.1, but you can use the 6th and 7th channel for zone 2 use in another room or outdoors. And at 200watts/channel, power is not an issue.

I am considering anything for power on the amp product page for Outlaw. I've looked into Pioneer Elite and something always brings me back. How would I configue the 770 to isolate the 6/7 channel to operate as L/R mains in another room?

The 770 is just seven amps packed into a box, so if you wanted to use two of the amp channels to drive speakers in another room, just hook the speakers to the two channels you want to use and connect the corresponding receiver or preamp outputs. With the 950, for example, you could connect the zone 2 output to the surround back channels and drive the other room's speakers from the zone 2 controls of the 950. ------------------ gonk -- Saloon Links | Pre/Pro Comparison Chart | 950 Review
