My Sony CD player which is a CDP-CX450 400 disc changer has crapped out so I need a replacement.

I had the same problem with my Sony DVD player which also had to be replaced. So I want to stay away from sony.

I use this changer a great deal. I have my CD's copied with CD text which this player displays.

So I want a new player and would like something that will last more than the 2 years I got out of my Sony.

I may like to jump into SACD or DVD-A also but I really do want another multi disc changer so that's probably another purchase.

Any suggestions from the outlaw's ?

(I really wish the RR2150 was a multi disc CD player, but I knew it wouldn't be)

I upgraded to a used Rega Planet from a Sony changer. I use the Rega's D/A conversion and run analog cables throught the ICBM into a outlaw 1050. There was a noticable improvement in quality with only a minor investment. I'll never go back to a jukebox style player again.

I understand that a single disc CD player of better quality will improve my sound however I really love the ability to play my CD's in random mode. I listen to CD's now that I haven't listened to in years. Especially if the CD only has one or two songs that I like since I can delete the song's I don't like using the players delete track feature. I am hooked on the mega-changer.

I may get a good CD/SACD player in addition to a new mega changer to meet both needs. High quality when I really want to listen and enjoy and the changer when I am just working around the house and want a little music in the background.

Having looked around myself I can't find any other brand that meets my needs for a jukebox unit. I am now considering two options.
1) Get my CDP-CS450 repaired.
2) Buy the Sony CDP-M555ES model which at least comes with a 5 year warranty.

Unless someone can point me to a high end jukebox that is. I do remember a juke box I was looking at a while ago that connected to the internet and downloaded track information automatically. I can't seem to find it anymore. I don't know how good it was.

Jed...that link has me drooling...if it had SACD as well, I would be selling my family into slavery to buy it!

Thanks Jed, I knew the outlaws would produce results. Now how do I explain a $1400 purchase instead of a $115 repair to my wife ? Actully I think I would prefer SACD over DVD-A. If SACD wins the war this 1400 will go to waste. At least now I know I can repair my unit with expectation of better devices in the future (always true I guess).

Hello desperado--you might consider the SCD-222ES CD/ MC SACD 5 disc player which seems seems to still be available for around $325-$350. Sony has announced several new players will be available around September- including the DVP-CX777ES, a 400 disc DVD/CD/SACD mega changer with an anticipated $800 list price. Oaf & Desperado, I am with you, If that thing had SACD I would have to probably get it. My only problem would be I don't have a family to sell into slavery.

I think I am going to wait for this puppy. 400 changer with SACD, I like it !

I don't know if I want to fix my current player or just use my DVD player for CD's and wait for the new model. Gotta think about that one.

Zenith has announced several types of multiple disc players with capabilities to play DVD-A, MP-3, CD-RW, etc...
I've had their 5-disc player (DVD2500, I think) for about a year now and have no complaints (except you've got to keep track of which tray has which movie or cd, but that's a given, I guess).
I would like to go to DVD-A and with the prices they quoted (as low as $149), I really don't think you could go wrong. The latest issue of Sound and Vision has one featured in New Products.
The only problem is none are available yet, and an e-mail to Zenith customer service gets you a response bereft of information and proper grammar.
So I guess I'll have to wait and see...
