DVI is a digital video interface that may end up used on HDTV. It was developed purely for video applications (flat panel LCD computer monitors, for example).

FireWire is also called IEEE 1394 (see the
1394 Trade Association ) that has been around longer than DVI but was originally developed to provide a high-bandwidth peripheral interface for PC's (similar to USB, although with more bandwidth). It is also a contender for the role of video interface between sources (HDTV set top box, DVD player, ...) and HD displays.
