surround speaker placement opinions - 02/25/08 10:27 PM

Hey Guys, I haven't been around in awhile but I would like any and all opinions on my inquiry. I know the standard placement for surround speakers as most recommend, but I cannot do that. Here are my two options, which would you do? Keep in mind I have a 20 ft vaulted ceiling.

1. slightly behind and at ear level
2. slightly behind and 8 ft above ear level

Thanks for any responses and I hope to visit more often. I am also very pleaed with my 990/7500.

Why not just try them both and go from there. That's what I would do in such a case. Give each position several days worth of playtime to become familiar with how the speakers sound in each location. After that I would try moving them back and forth (if possible) to see which location works best.

When talking about ear level, are you thinking of ear level while sitting or ear level while standing? I'd be partial to ear level while standing or perhaps the 8 feet above ear level while sitting.

Man, I still owe you a visit...

Thanks for the replies. Ear level now is while sitting, so I will try the above option next.
Just give me a shout anytime.
