OK, Fine. So their subwoofer will do 10Hz farther into the threshold of pain than my 4 18" subs will...........

This is an April Fool's joke, right? For all the money this guy invested in a "reproduction" system he/she could have attended probably hundreds of live concerts. This is an example of conspicuous consumption to the nth degree! (i'm richer than you....nanny nanny poo poo!)

1) Perhaps a good term for this type of installation is “subbasementwoofer.”

2) Unlikely to find one just like it on Ebay. Then there'd be the shipping charges!

3) In one of the pics you can link to, notice there is only one chair going in that room. But at the bottom of this page , you can see they have put in a couch. If I spent what they're spending, I'd share.

all we need to do is rent a jackhammer and tear up our basements (im sure our significant others would LOVE THAT), do some masonry work for a couple of years, and wed be set. oh wait i forgot about buying the equipment. tommy lee has subs underneath this huge couch he has (more like a bed with sides) and he got pamela anderson, so maybe there is something to all this.

But in concept, the idea of using otherwise wasted space (ie. under the usual floor) is not a bad one - even if it was implememted in the extreme in this case.

At some point in the future I intend to convert another part of my basement into a larger (but still not very large) home theatre. I want to have a riser / stage across the front of the room, and risers for seating at the middle / back. I doodled out some plans a while back that would allow me to use the volume of the risers as subwoofer cabinets. And interestingly enough, my plan is to build these out of concrete blocks - and to use a horn configuration. Basically what these guys did - but on a much smaller (and sane) scale.

Sometimes the "crazy" can become "the inspirational."

Actually I was there the day before, not since, so I don't remember, but it's interesting that this has been out a while.

why stop at a shallow pit, just tunnel underground into a proper studio and borrow it every time you want some quality listening. that way you can save money on equipment, just hire a few illegal immigrants to do the tunneling and you are set. oh if you go through with this, tunnel into a large reserve of cash for me, 50/50 since the tunnel was my idea. but dont hire anyone with a girlfriend named mountain girl!

I'm sure some gunslinger has a swimming pool that doesn't get a WHOLE lot of use...
