Preamp issue?

Preamp issue? - 11/13/12 11:10 AM

Here’s my issue, I just moved to a new home and reconnected everything the way that it should be and now it’s looking like something malfunctioned. I'm unable to get audio from my Outlaw 755 amplifier.

Here’s what I own:
Integra DTR 7.3 Receiver
Outlaw ICBM
Outlaw 755

I’m told that I should use a scope to test the pre-amp outputs from the Integra DTR 7.3. Is there an easy way to do this without a scope? Btw, I made sure that multichannel is set to yes and I bypassed the ICBM during my troubleshooting and I also made sure that the speaker wire and speaker operates using another receiver. The Integra functions if I use the speaker terminals instead of the preamp outputs.

Is there a safe method to test the Outlaw 755 without a pre-amp?

Thanks!

Call Outlaw for support. Does the 755 come on at all? If not, a blown fuse is possible. Something common to all 5 cahannels seems to be power related to me.

The 755 does power up via the trigger. Everything powers up. I'm suspecting a problem with either the Preamp or the Amp which seems unlikely since I tested all 5 channels but anything is possible.

Thanks for the response!

Here is a quick test for the amp channels. Connect a RCA to mini jack stereo cable to an iPod or other small source. Connect the RCA to the amp channels you want to test. Select a music track. Turn the volume on the iPod all the way down. Turn on the amp and slowly, gently increase the volume on the iPod to get sound out of the channels. No sound = amp problem. Sound = AVR problem.

Thank You!

I'm still working through the process. The amp tested well and so did the preamp but only after unplugging the trigger cable from the Outlaw amp. I still need to figure out why the trigger cable is doing the opposite of what it's supposed to do. Time to crack open the manual...

Check to make sure the trigger cable is a mono cable and not a stereo mini-jack.

When I first got my 7125, the trigger did the opposite of what it was supposed to do. A tech told me that the Power button has a mechanical on and off position internally. I needed to depress the power switch to get it in sync with the trigger function. After I did that it was all good.

Not sure if your amp has the same style switch, but it sounds like the same issue.

Issue resolved! Thanks guys! My issue resided in the Panamax, the trigger piece was disabled via a switch. I'm not sure how that happened..
