Hi All,

Just coverted to digital cable and was setting up my universal remote for the cable box. I noticed the cable box has a volume control. This must be some sort of audio signal level? I will be using the volume on my TV or my 950 but what should I set this volume to, 50% and forget about it?

Thanks Bob

Not being gonk or altec, our two most knowledgeable members, I'd just set the volume control for 100% - which should get it out of the way electronically - and compare the audio level you get from your cable box with what you get from your CD or DVD player. If it's too loud, turn down the volume control until the audio level is the same.

If this is not the best advice I'm sure someone will correct me.

I concur - set the cable box's volume to 100%

Thanks guys,

My only thought is there may be some distortion at 100%. Bob

There shouldn't be any - these volume controls generally simply subtract from the original, not amplifying it.

Depending on the box and the software your provider implements, you may be able to defeat the box's volume control. I.e. on my FiOS Motorola HDDVR, under menu>settings>Audio>volume control, I can change "variable" to "fixed". My son will hit the volume control on every remote in the room before he finds the right one :p
