Another new 7500 owner. WOW!

I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching and reading forums from every site imaginable before ordering my 7500 last week. I was almost ready to order an Emotiva XPA3 or XPA5 but I couldn't ignore repeated posts of some people having to send their units back for repair. Negative comments about the Outlaw amps seemed few and far between. Yes the Outlaw was more expensive but I feel I made the right choice by going with the 7500. I replaced three 15 year old Carver amps with this one multi-channel unit. I actually had more (advertised) power across the front three channels at 250x3 with the Carvers but I quickly found out that not all power is created equal. When I finally got the 80lb beast in it resting place and hooked up to my Outlaw 990 what I heard in two channel analog from a CD was shocking to me. It was like I had replaced my speakers (Definitive Tech BP2002 fronts) in addition to the amp. I had always heard that the Carvers had a smooth or warm sound. I'm not sure who thinks a drum stick hitting a snare drum should sound warm. It should sound like a hard crack and make you jump. How about standing beside someone playing an acoustic guitar? I wouldn't call it warm, it should sound real! For the first time my speakers sound real. Movies sound like it did long ago when we all went from VHS to DVD. Effortless power, fast transients, clean, and built like a tank. I’m not sure what else someone could want. The problems that some people were having of a hum didn’t happen to me. This may be due to the twin 20amp dedicated circuits I have feeding my system.

You made a great choice! I did the same thing and spent along time deciding on my first amp and ended up with a 7500.

The difference my wife heard in going from a Rotel 1057 to a Rotel 1057 + 7500 was so huge that I can pretty much buy any Outlaw product without a peep. No joke.

awgtitan, I'm posting because like you have I Def Tech towers and they really opened up with the Outlaw M200 monoblocks I've been using since they came out(2003 or sometime around than if I recall correctly). I got the 2002's replacement in '04, the 7002's, and it was as if I got new speakers just as you mentioned! Nothing like clean, strong power from a solid amp!

I have thought about upgrading my BP2002's for a while but with the new 7500 I'm happy for now. Just a quick note on how I found the best sound with mine. Tell me how you run yours. I have my 990 set to small fronts and crossed over at 60hz. The sub sections are run directly from the LFE out of my 990. I tried several other set-ups but kept coming back to this one. With this system I'm surrounded by (14) identical 5.5" midranges, 8 tweeters, and dual 12" subs. The sound is seemless, powerful, and can get scary when the on-screen action cranks-up.

I've got 7002's for Mains, C/L/R 2500 for center, 7006's for surrounds and a Supercube I. I run all speakers as Large, I never bothered running the LFE to the built in subs, sounds sublime as is. Maybe someday I'll try it and see if I hear and feel a difference. Oh and the only discrepancy I have in woofers is the 7006's have 4.5" mids, not 5.5" mids like the front 3. I think the following is correct(I'm falling asleep at the laptop so I might have counted incorrectly)...

Very nice. We are in Def. Tech nirvana. How do you like your supercube? Last year I shopped for a long time trying to decide on a sub but couldn't make up my mind. I debated between the supercube reference, SVS tube style, EPIK, and HSU. I like the low end of my BP2002's but they roll off sharply around 32hz according to my test disc. Rock-on!

Nirvana indeed! The Supercube does the job but I won't sit here and say it's totally killer. Better can be had and no doubt for less but I wanted to keep everything uniform for peace of mind. I did order the New Outlaw M8 sub a couple days ago, going to see how it compliments the room in empty corner. The Outlaw gear has always served me well so I have no doubt it will be pleasing. It's really affordable so if I don't feel it helps in the big room, I'll put it my smaller room that has a complete DefTech Pro800 system. That little prosub800 could use some help lol.

I seriously considered the Outlaw LFM-1EX but I worry that it wont add that much to the super low end (under 30hz)to what I have now. I like the downfiring configuration as I think it lends itself to more placement options. The SVS tubes have the downfiring set-up as well. For now I will just sit back and smile at my new 7500.

How much lower than 16 hz do you want to go? The EX is very powerful in the low end.

If it will get that low I would love nothing more than to order one now. Have you measured that kind of output? I thought I remembered a reviewer once saying that it held it's own against some very expensive competition but couldn't get into the lowest depths of what can be found on some material.

I have no way of measuring lower than 30hz ( the bottom of the subwoofer setup track on Aviva)but I understand the organ drops to about 20hz in the second movement of Saint-Saens 3rd and the EX handels that very nicely.

The LFM-1EX is rated by Outlaw at 16 hz with one port plugged. The one in my system has never had a problem with any material I have used. Bear in mind that almost no music goes that low. HT is where you really feel the lower response. My favorite disc to play heavy bass is the LOTR trilogy, especially Return of the King.

Maybe the Outlaw sub is worth a try. I love my system the way it is for music as the music I like (rock, blues, jazz) is material above 35-40hz. I want the sub to pick up the very bottom with the movies. If I get the sub I will start it crossed over at it's lowest setting to see how it blends.

I read that one of those rotary subs can provide 115db at 10hz!!! That will get the neighbors bitching!
