Increasing volume of Speaking - 09/07/09 07:23 PM

I have a 5.1 system driven by a 970 that was given to me (so I am still getting used to the unit). I thought I had balanced everything correctly with a sound meter.... but my wife and mother complain that the spoken parts of movies and shows (in dolby) are drowned out by the music. I have been fooling around with the center levels - but not getting the desired effect.

Any tips on settings? ....

This is my speaker setup is:

Polk TC265 - Fronts, RC 65 - Rear, CS 6- Center

The 970 is hooked to a 7125.

Thanks,
LJ

After balancing the system with an SPL meter, take down the left and right channels 2 dB and raise the center about 2 dB (maybe 3 dB). Reduce the surrounds by 3 dB.

I do not recommend this for every system, but certain movies and shows tend to go a little light on the center. See if that helps.
