No Video from DVD

No Video from DVD - 11/13/06 10:11 AM

I have a Denon DVD player with component video hooked to the 970 with an s-video from the 970 hooked to S-video on a new EDTV Plasma and the analog audio cables from the 970 to the plasma which I will replace with HDMI or Digital optical when I get them.
I am getting audio but no video. When I had the old 27" TV hooked up with the same configuration it worked fine.
When I hook the component from the DVD dirctly to the TV it's fine. I may just leave it that way.
Any idea what could be going on?
Thanks

The 970 (and all other surround receivers I've read up on) will not transcode video down from component inputs to the s-video outputs. You would need to run component video from the 970 to the EDTV to see the component video input signals.

Gonk,

Thanks for the info. I thought I was going nuts.
I'll probably just leave the Component cables hooked up directly to the TV.
Although I can't figure out why it worked with the old TV. The old TV did not have component, only S-Video.
When I switched my source on the TV to view DVD I had to go to video 2 though since video 1 gave me the onscreen display.
Thanks again.

If video1 on the TV gave you the 970's on screen display and you had to change to video2 on the TV to see the DVD, then you weren't routing your DVD's video through the 970 before. You may very well have had component video from the DVD connected to the 970 before, but it sounds like there was also an s-video or composite video run straight from the DVD to the TV's video2 input - and that was what you were using.

Component straight to the TV will work well, then whenever you move to HDMI for the video you can move that component cable to the 970 monitor output - that will support any analog video connection to the 970 (composite, s-video, or component), and will still give you the on-screen menu so long as you first switch to a source that using composite or s-video (like the front input).
