970 and Subwoofer Setup - 08/28/06 07:29 PM

I have just got my 970 in and everything is going great. I am stereo newbie and I have a question about the subwoofer. My subwoofer a psw505 has an LFE rca input (unfiltered) and a Line In right and left RCA (filtered). The 970 has 1 sub output and I plugged it into the LFE but I do not think this is right. Do I need to get an RCA cable Y adapter so I can plug the sub into the Left and Right input instead of the LFE. Any input would be much appreciated.

You have the 970 and your sub connected exactly right. According to Polk's user manual , you should use the LFE input when pairing the sub with a system that has a subwoofer output - which includes the 970.

As a follow up question, what if you have a subwoofer (also Polk) that only has R/L RCA line inputs? Can you just run the line from the preamp to one or the other? The subwoofer isn't stereo anyway? Thanks.

If your sub's amp only has left and right inputs, you can just connect the sub cable to either one of the inputs. Some people do use a splitter and connect both inputs, but it isn't necessary.
