Hello Scott. Is this unit shipping out to customers? If not how about a time frame for shipments to begin? Not going to hold you down to the hour or anything, but are we talking about 1 week? 2 weeks?

Regards,

Charlie

Hi,I'm new to this so bear with me.I'm considering the 970 @ amplifier to go with the Orb Editor's choice speakers.Has anyone tried this with small speakers and what crossover would I us?I live in the NYC area with limited space.

I don't know if there are any 970's paired up with Orbs yet or not. The specs were a little elusive at first, but I found them. The overall system inluding subwoofer is rated at operating from 28Hz to 20,000Hz at +/-5dB (which is a wider allowance than the standard +/- 3dB)), but the satellites themselves have a frequency response of 80Hz to 20,000Hz (presumably at the same +/-5dB). Based on that, I'd recommend a crossover of no lower than 100Hz, and I might toy around with 120Hz as well.

The new Model 7075 would potentially be a very good match for these speakers, but you could also go with the Model 7125 and be in a position to drive larger speakers a few years down the road without investing in a new amp.

EDIT: Here are some more detailed specs that would lead me toward the 120Hz crossover point (the review's specs page indicates frequency responses of 80Hz to 20,000Hz at +/-6dB and 120Hz to 18,000Hz at +/-3dB).

I have heard the 1070 (the 970's receiver cousin) with Orb Audio Mod2 speakers. I didn't hear them in a HT 5.1 setup, but music in stereo with the Orb sub sounded great to me - very crisp and clear. I have Mod2 5.1's with the 950/7100 and I love that combination as well. If you are looking for small speakers, the SVS system has received some good press as well. Good luck - let us know what you decide about the Orbs.

As I mentioned it is a 950/7100 (not the 970 you had inquired about) with the 5.1 setup and Super 8 sub. Works well for the space I have. The sound is great. I typically use either 5-channel for backgound or BYPASS for other listening. I haven't really done a careful side-by-side with other speakers, so I am not sure how good/bad these speakers are, though I personally like the sound and have no real issues with them. They play loud and clear and it is essential to have a sub for the lower frequencies.

The 950 is older and I suspect the sound from the 970 would be even better.

Both Orb and Outlaw have good customer service. I have e-mailed Orb a number of times to have speaker related questions answered.

Not sure if I have answered your question - is there anything specific you would like to know?
