Model 1070 versus Yamaha RXV750 - 08/10/07 05:58 PM

My Outlaw is coming home today. I'm very happy about this smile In the new house I've BEEN running my 5.1 setup on teh Yamaha RXV750 and with the 1070 enroute, I've assumed that the Outlaw will take it's place and he Yammie will accomodate my back gaming room w/ the Bose. (I know, not a good fate for a faithful receiver.)

I've been overall pretty happy with the Yamaha's performace. I know my speakers are on the small side. My living room is about 22X15. It has oak floors and 4 windows on one side, one rug, and one sectional. I don't know how I'd characterize the room...somewhere between 'average' and reverbrant. I did have to cut back on the volume of the ASW650...it was booming pretty good. I have it running at around 3/10 on volume.

I was flipping through some older reviews of the 1070 (just siking myself up I guess) and one guy commented that the 1070 was best suited for a small viewing room. All my rooms in the old house were pretty small (15x15). Does anyone care to compare the Yamaha and the 1070? I"ve always thought the 1070 was the better of the two, sonically, but I haven't tried the 1070 in the new room. Just curious to see if anyone thinks the 1070 is underpowered, by comparison, for a space about 22x15. (9 ft ceilings btw.)

Thanks...

My family room is about 45 X 14. Though the seated listening area is about 16 X 14, the 1070 has no problems filling the room with sound. If your speakers are not super difficult to drive, and you don't listen at ear-splitting levels, I don't think power will be a problem.

I have had a Yamaha RX-V659 in my set-up before the Outlaw, and the 1070 sounds far more powerful to me.

I agree with Chas...though my room is much smaller than yours, the 1070 does sound more powerful than the Yamaha 659 (which I had too). The speakers I had when I used the 1070 were much less efficient (~83 db) than I believe yours are and my room is carpeted but it filled the living room and adjoining dining room with sound.

Well not to anyone's surprise, the 1070 is doing a bang-up job in my viewing room. It's good to have it back. laugh
