Hey all running into some peculiar issues with my new 1070 -- hoping the experts in the forum might have some solutions.

(1) When using the receiver on moderate volums (-25db +) i hear a constant clicking coming from the receiver which is distracting in itself and cuts into the audio from the speakers.

(2) When changing discs in the dvd player a huge hissing sound starts to emit from each of the speakers and a total loss of sound then results regardless of source. Only solution is to turn on and turn back on. This appears to be an issue with the firmware -- is this assumption true?

(3) This is a more minor issue then the others -- when setting up the Tivo via video 2 the 1070 would emit the receivers menu on the display -- however for both the x-box 360 and DVD player there was no video on the display letting me know what I was doing -- had to utilize the somewhat small front display on the receiver to complete the set-up. Is this intentional for some reason for HDTV source material?

Thanks in advance -- hopefully I can resolve these questions via the forum and not call Outlaw -- would love to save them the dime and of course not wait until tomororw :-)

-Tim

I'm not sure about 1 and 2 (I'd definitely recommend giving Outlaw a buzz about them), but I think I can answer 3 for you. I'm guessing the Tivo is connected via s-video or composite, while the Xbox360 and DVD player are connected via component. The 1070 does not generate an on-screen menu for component video sources, but it will generate the menu for s-video and composite video sources before transcoding the signal to component. It's intentional - the processing horsepower required to generate OSD data for component video sources without degrading the video quality is very significant. (The 990 does generate the setup menu for component sources but it does so by replacing the incoming signal with a black background on which it draws the menu, and it mimics the 1070/970 in not providing an on-screen "pop-up" display of volume or input for component inputs.)

Got off the phone earlier this morning with Outlaw tech help -- many props to them best help I've ever received with any consumer device. I'll answer my own questions for future folks.

(1) The constant clicking noise was the receiver protecting itself from self-destruction. Apparently when I attached the bare speaker wire to the rear of the receiver there were strands of wire that were not completely in the post and touching the rear of the receiver. Word to the wise -- that's bad.

(2) Appears to be a combination of #1 and the already known -'no-audio' issue. Once I dig up an old pc with a serial port I'll use the beta firmware to correct.

(3)Gonk was of course right -- no component OSD -- rather insignificatnt once the receiver is set-up.

What?!? I'm running my 1070 with component video sources (in this case my DVD player which is only connected with component) and the OSD shows up every time. I think you're referring to the DVI inputs.

From what I've read, the OSD will appear over component if the active source is s-video or composite. Is your DVD player set up for interlaced (480i) or progressive scan (480p) output? It may be that 480i component still gets the menu, although that was not my understanding.

The menu does go through the component monitor output on 480i, but not 480p or higher...

I can confirm what Laventura said. Anyone with an original xbox and an xbox 360 can test this. The original xbox only output movies in 480i and the xbox 360 has a progressive scan dvd player and outputs in 480p. The same is not true for games, just movies.
