Well I've got my 1070 up and running. It replaced a 1050 that I moved to another room. Everything on the 1070 seems OK except for a funky remote issue. (Never had remote problems when the 1050 was in the same spot.)

Basically after I change volume on the 1070 with its remote and later hit any button on my cable box remote, the volume on the 1070 changes with every button smash of the cable box remote. The volume change is always in the direction previously changed using the Outlaw remote.

I did find that after changing volume using the Outlaw remote if I hit any other button on the Outlaw remote the behavior would not happen. So using the cable box remote I could change channels, look at channel menus, etc., without the 1070 changing volume with each cable box remote button push. In other words like you'd expect the systems to work.

Obviously having to hit another button after changing volume is not a workable situation. It makes using my universal remote correctly impossible. And heck who wants to have to remember and then train everyone in the family to do this.

The situation seems like the 1070 responds to the up or down volume signal and leaves the IR system open (on??) and then the 1070 responds to other IR signals like they were the same volume signal. Quite bizarre to change the channel on the cable box and have the volume on the 1070 change as well and get the 1070 OSD as the volume changes. Really bad when making a bunch of key strokes on the other remote.

Not sure where to go with this one.

What type of cable box do you have?

Cable box is a Motorola DCT2000. It has a General Instruments remote.

Continued troubleshooting this morning found I can't turn on the 1070 with its remote. I have to push the button on 1070. The 1070 remote will turn the 1070 off but not on.

Verified the bizarre behavior with the cable box remote today. TV remote or DVD remote do not have any effect. Tried the 1050's remote and it causes the same problems. So the problem seems to be a 1070 issue and definitely some kind of interaction with the cable box remote.

So if I use the 1070 remote to change volume, using the cable box remote for any reason causes the 1070 volume to change with each cable remote button push unless I hit any other button on the 1070 remote.

Hello Jim,

You'll need to download and install this software patch:

http://www.outlawaudio.com/support/1070.html

This update specifically addresses this issue.

Best,

Scott

Scott,
Thanks I'll give that a try. I later recognized that the power button on the 1070 remote (unlike the power button on the 1050 remote) only turns the unit off. Hitting a source button like video 2 turns the unit on. So at least that "anamoly" is understood.
Cheers, Jim

Problem solved. The software update seems to have done the trick. System testing and tweaking continues. Universal remote now doing its thing correctly. On to new macros!

Thanks Scott for pointing me to the software patch.

Glad I'm a bit of a techno-geek. As my wife said, she would have had no clue what to do expect try to find someone who knew what RS232 was, etc.

Cheers, Jim

Thank you thank you thank you!

I've been wondering about this, and had it on my to-do list to contact the Outlaws about it.
