990 setup microphone - 02/09/11 07:18 PM

I seem to have misplaced my 990s setup microphone. Has anyone used a different mike for the setup.

By the way, I did use the Audyssey microphone from my Onkyo PR-SC886 and it worked pretty well. It measured the distances very close and could easily sense which speakers were connected and did make some difference in the sound field. I checked it with a Radioshack SPL meter and it was dead on. If I ever find my original mike I will let you know how close the two are.

I seem to be in good company! I also can't find my mike. Suggestion: equip mike with small string, like Wii controllers.

Supposedly Sherwood-Newcastle has a stock left for about $50. I actually got the RadioShack SPL meter for $15 on sale (analog version) and have been pretty happy with it. The Audyssey mike worked too but I am not sure how it interfaced with the 990 although I expect very little difference because the 990 doesn't have room correction just setup which just measures distance and level which I can do manually.
