Analog bypass

For CD playback I run my Oppo BDP-83SE's stereo analog out into my 990's CD imput.
I like to run it in the bypass mode but I am having a weird problem.
I set the CD mode to bypass and when I switch to the 7.1 direct mode for movies and then back to CD it has defaults back to stereo mode.
It's not a big deal to change it back but I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem and, if so, did you find a solution to keep the CD mode in bypass?

Yes, I had the same issue and asked Outlaw customer service. It is a "feature" not a problem. The answer was yes, it does that. Oddly enough, if you switch to one of the video inputs in between and then back to CD, it stays in bypass. When I first got the Oppo I was doing a lot of comparisons among all the different combinations and connections between the Oppo and the 990. It is not much of an issue anymore, but I always check when I am going to play a CD.

I've got the same issue. The 990 seems to default to Stereo regardless of the audio input setup for CD playback. I've set the "Surr Mode" to Bypass and audio to Analog in the audio input setup for CD playback and if you turn everything off or switch to 7.1 audio the 990 reverts to Stereo for the Surr Mode setting when you go back to CD playback's audio setup page. I've not found a solution and it is an annoying hiccup since I want to use the Oppo's audio section. And I imagine with the SE version you'd really want to take advantage of its upgraded audio capabilities.

FYI, I've not found an issue with the video input setup for CD playback where I use the coax output from the Oppo and leave the 990's Surr Mode set to Upsample and it retains that setting.

So my 990 is now a Discontinued Product? With no Outlaw product to replace it? I think you've got a LOT of unhappy campers out here.

Yes, the 990 is discontinued. The 997 was going to replace it, but it appears that Sherwood/Inkel couldn't get the product to a level that Outlaw was satisfied with. As has been discussed a bit around here over the last several months, that left Outlaw with a difficult choice: roll out a product they aren't satisfied with (creating a number of unhappy 997 owners who expected better from Outlaw) or scrap it and develop an alternative (creating some unhappy potential owners who will either buy elsewhere or wait until the 998 arrives).
