Speaker and crossover settings - 12/14/06 03:36 PM

Hello to all,
I have been playing around with the 990 for about 2 weeks now. I have not used the auto setup as of yet. I have Klipsch KLF20's for the front L and R. KLFC7 for the center and RS3's for the surronds. I have a sunfire true junior sub. Just wondering what settings to try out for the speakers. Thanks again.

Hi vp8000,check in the manuals for the klipsch for what the frequency response is[say 36hz to 20khz for the KLF20's for example] set the crossover to 60 hz or even 80, see what sounds best to you, in other words set the crossovers higher than your frequency responses, I have klipsch speakers also and that seems to work for me. Have fun.

My general rule of thumb is this for the mains and center channel: Take the -3 db rating for the bottom end of the speaker's frequency response and round it down to the nearest multiple of 10 and then double that to get the crossover frequency. For example, if the speaker is rated down to 37Hz, I'd set the crossover at 60. For surround speakers, I usually go with the closet crossover setting that's greater than what the speaker is rated at. If the speaker is rated down to 82 Hz, I'd go with 100Hz as the crossover setting. This is just a guideline to get started, adjust to what your ears like best.

I've had good luck using a system very much like cvinfig's.
