Newbie Question Re Cables for 990/7125 - 05/02/06 11:17 AM

I just purchased a 990 and a 7125.

The 990 shipped from Mass and arrived THE SAME DAY at my house in Rhode Island.

The 7125 shipped from California and is currently on a fedex truck enjoying the heartland of America.

I'd like to have the right cables when the 7125 arrives. As I look at the selections here and elsewhere (monoprice/bluejeans), I realize I do not know the exact specs of the cables I need to order to connect the 7125 and the 990.

Can anyone tell me?

Also, I need to buy a bunch of cables (including 100' of speaker cable). Suggestions as to cable sources other than those I have identified are appreciated. I would go with monoprice, but it appears the speakercable I want is out of stock for two weeks. frown

Thanks!

I'd look at the Outlaw PCA cables for the 990/7125 connections.

As far as speaker runs, I'd go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up some 12 gauge speaker wire. That's what I am using and seems to work great plus the price is hard to beat.

You might look at the 12 gauge extension cords at HD I believe they may be cheaper than speaker wire.

If you want to stay on the cheap and it sounds like you do you may want to build your own speaker cables. Check out this web address which gives instructions on how to build CAT 5 cables. www.venhaus1.com/diycatfivecables.html . This may not be what you are looking for but it's still an interesting read.

I'll second the vote for the PCA cables from Outlaw. I just got some with my 7125 and am very happy with them.

DGR,
Outlaw PCA - very nice. could spend more money but why?
I made my own CAT5 cables. The link provided by E'pin Sen Ob will do you. One thought. You do not have to strip the CAT5 all the way down. The cables 4 twisted pairs inside are all ready twisted at different rates. (At least the Belden stuff is)
Therefore this DIY becomes very easy and fast. I made 2x 8' section in about 3-4 hours (including spades on one end and bananas on the other).
good luck and keep us in the loop on the final outcome.
