I'm getting an itchy trigger finger and about to spring for a 990 but have a question....

I know the 990 upsamples to 192/24 in stereo mode.....can it do the same upsample on the 2 mains while being fed a Dolby or DTS signal? The Statement D1 upsamples all channels to 192/24 for movies and I was wondering if the 990 could at least upsample the front 2 channels during movies or is this only limited to 2 channel stereo PCM?

Also, if I'm playing a SACD or DVD-A disc on my Denon 2910 player, then I am using the Denon's DAC's for decoding and the 990 would have little added benefit over my current receiver. Is this logic correct?

The 990 only upsamples stereo sources.

For SACD and DVD-Audio, you will be using the players DAC's.

SACD is only analog even for high quality stereo. But my Yamaha S1500 DVD player will output 88 kHz and 96 kHZ non-copy-protected digital from high quality DVD-Audio stereo tracks, and my 990 does play these properly through any of the digital inputs.

This feature may vary among DVD players.

So is it fair to say the only time an Anthem or Lexicon would possibly sound better would be when listening to a CD or watching movies through digital connection? SACD and DVD-A shouldn't be much different since the processor isn't involved but for volume control?

No I don't think it true at all. What gives a PrePro it's "character" in addition to the DAC is the quality of the analog output stage or the PREamp part of PrePro. So even if you are only using it as a volume control you are still using the Analog Preamp of the device. That's not to say the Anthem or Lexicon are better, I happen to think the 990 has a pretty darn good analog section, especially compared to the 950.

When upsampling two channel, is the sub included in the mix? In other words, is the digitized bass management involved even during upsampling?

Upsampling does not affect how the bass management is handled. If the speakers are set to small, then the sub will be active.
