I am having problems with my 990 and my Audio Source Amp 300. Whenever there is a pause between songs on a cd, the amp goes into standby. I have noticed this both with the trigger and without the trigger in place. Particularly on The Doors LA Woman. Especially when listening to a new cd, it always has a three second delay before I hear the music. I have tried changing the 3-15 second delay time and this does not help. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you, Aaron

The amp is shutting down? Are you connecting to trigger 1 or trigger 2? Trigger 1 doesn't stop unless the 990 turns off. Does the amp have an auto-sensing function?

Having looked at your amps features, it seems it has three types of power on capabilities: delay on (3-15 seconds), signal sensing, and 12v trigger. The delay time won't be of use but you are saying that you are having problems whether it is in signal sensing and 12v trigger mode? Is it the amp that is going into standby only or is the Outlaw 990 turning off as well? I would connect your amp via the trigger 1 of the Outlaw vs. the singal sensing. It could be the amp is very sensitive to quiet passages and its signal sensing circuit thinks you turned off the power to the Outlaw. Three seconds is very fast for signal sensing to turn off an amp. Even my Velodyne doesn't shut off until it doesn't "hear" a signal for 15 minutes and even then, when a signal reappears, it automatically turns itself back on immediately.

The amp is going into standby mode. I am connecting to trigger 1. The amp does have an auto sensing function.

The amp is going into standby only. The 990 is not turning off.

Please check out the link below (page 5 - 5 & 8 RCA Input/Output). I think this has something to do with it, although I'm not sure what.

Trigger 1 should not shut off if the 990 is still on, just as trigger 2 should not shut off unless you change to an input for which it is disabled. As a result, I'm suspicious of the amp doing something odd. Is the rear panel switch set for trigger, or for auto-on? Does it happen using both Line 1 and Line 2 on the amp?

Looking at the picture from the link, I don't see the trigger connector for the amp. Have you tried using the RCA connectors instead and make sure that the other switch is properly set? Is the trigger cable properly seated to the connector to the 990 and the amp? If the connector cable is loose, that could cause the amp to accidently shut down.

I have an AudioSource Amp200 and I second Gonk's recommendation to make sure the switch on the back panel is set to Trigger. Also make sure you're using the Line 2 input as that is the primary input. When a signal is detected on Line 1, it switches to that but once the signal disappears it reverts to Line 2 (the Delay Time setting controls the length of time between loss of signal on Line 1 and the switch over to Line 2).

If the bright, obnoxious light on the front stays blue between songs then that suggests the Line 1 / Line 2 scenario. If the light changes to retina-searing red then the amp is actually turning off so the problem is the power-on setting...

Great diagnostic summary! Visions of a revised label for the front panel LED are dancing in my head... "Power indicator will appear as 'bright, obnoxious blue' when amplifier is on and 'retina-searing red' when amp is off." laugh

Thank you for all of your feedback! It turns out that cfinfig wins the prize. It is absurd, but you actually have to use the Line 2 input rather than the Line 1 input. That explanation is exactly what happened. I can't imagine the designer configuring this device for the primary connection to Line 2 rather than Line 1, but maybe he wanted to drive everyone crazy. Everything is working correctly now thanks to all of your help. Every time a cd is placed in the machine or in between tracks, the music plays as it should and is no longer cutting out for 3 seconds.
