I am attempting to hook up 990/7125/LFM-1 for the first time (DVI / Plasma output, Cable Box + SACD/DVD inputs). Net net, after hours of work, and confirmation that all lines are appropriately connected, I can get no sound whatsoever. Video switching seems fine, butaudio is null and void. Several items suggest a bad 990:

1)No Sound.

2)Remote appears inoperable. Backlights work, but all of the functions actions on the 990 remote incl. volume, select, switching… just seems dead.

3)In the set up of the default surround sound mode, the unit will not switch out of PLII MV +DH1

I suppose there is also a problem with 7125 amp, but given the other items above, the 990 seems to have a manufacturing defect.

Suggestions???

It sounds like you are getting the 990 to (1) turn on, (2) give you video switching, and (3) give access to the OSD menus. Meanwhile the remote doesn't do anything. You've got a couple of different sources, so presumably you've tried more than one source to verify that it isn't a problem on that end. The things that I would check would be interconnects (which you've done), input settings (digital input assignments and so forth), and make sure you hit the "TNR" button on the remote (botton right corner of the cluster of eight buttons at the top of the remote) to make sure it is in the mode that controls the 990. Also, and this may be the thing to try first, hold down the mute button for a few seconds (it may take 5 seconds, in fact) - since the surround mode that you mention includes "DH1" I suspect that the unit may be switched to headphone output rather than pre-amp output, which would give you full video control but no audio. If that doesn't work, I'd start by making sure there is an active audio source and then check to see what modes are indicated on the front panel (which would indicate whether or not the 990 is locked onto the incoming signal).
