Ok, got my blue dot 950 all hooked up (thanks Outlaw, great job w/ the new rev). And now that my noise issues are for the most part resolved, I set to calibrating the trims.

I set all 8 channels to 75db SPL at 0 volume (had to trim them between -11 and -8 this time, last version was btwn -8 and -5).

Then I set my 950 to Dolby Digital mode and threw in Avia.

The subwoofer calibration tests on Avia (chapter 7, alternating high-frequency and low-frequency pink noise on all 5 channels) had me raise the trim on my subwoofer. I went back to the internal test tones and at the trim Avia had me calibrate to, the subwoofer was 6 to 8 dbs higher than the other channels.

Is there any explaination for this? Is Avia measuring LFE and the internal tones measuring subwoofer or something?

Who should I believe?

I'm almost positive that the Avia disc is intended to use _85db_ instead of 75db as a reference on your sound level meter. Check in the instructions in the booklet and on the on-screen instructions, they will probably say 85db. Just cal until those tones are at 85db rather than 75db and it should all come out right. (assuming I'm right )

Yep, you're right soundhound. The on-screen instructions in Avia just said to calibrate to a level higher than 70, so I was just going by 75.

I re-calibrated Avia at 85db SPL and the trims matched the internal test tone's 75db SPL levels.

Thanks again!
