Heat & 7100 - Can 950 go on top?

Heat & 7100 - Can 950 go on top? - 01/19/05 12:56 AM

Can the 950 be placed directly on top of the 7100 or should the 7100 have an open top? I can set it up either way, but would prefer to place the 950 on top. Just curious if I'll run into heat problems.

there is always a potential heat problem stacking on top of amplifiers, but i'm not familiar with the 7100.is in vented on top, sides, heatsinks on the rear, cooling fan?
always a possibility you could put a personal fan behind it,out of site if you had to stack.
i see some people stack 200's so maybe outlaw has it figured out nowadays but my 1050 runs on the warm side just powering surrounds and it's on it's own shelf with alot of ventilation

I would strongly recommend against stacking anything directly on top of the 7100. The M200 monoblocks are designed to be stacked (both structurally and from a heat rejection standpoint), but the 7100 and Outlaw's other multichannel amps really want a couple inches clear above them for cooling. I got by with as little as an inch and a quarter with my 750 in our old equipment rack, but that rack was fully open in the front and back and the 750 was at the bottom of the rack (so no heat was rising from equipment below it).

Like the 770 and 755, the 7100 does not use a cooling fan - the amp channels are equipped with large heat sinks and the top of the amp is dedicated to ventilation openings for heat rejection from those sinks.

No problem I can set it up this way just isn't as visually balanced - amp is more important than beauty.
