Definitive Word on Operating Temp

I've searched through the forums here but not sure I feel completely comfortable about this yet....My 1050 has about 3" of ventilation at the top, and about 1.5" on each side. It sits on the middle shelf of a wood entertainment center that is open in the back and about 8-10" from the wall. After running for about 30-40 minutes, but back portion of the receiver can become pretty hot. How can you tell if it's within normal limits as far as temperature? Thanks!

That sounds like reasonable ventilation to me. In my experience, the 1050 runs fairly warm no matter how much ventilation is available, which is I believe you are experiencing.

Thanks, Gonk. Is that to say that it runs hot as a result of its design and it's normal? Or more along the lines of the 950 hissing issue, where it's an undesirable side effect that ought to be corrected?

That's almost exactly the same setup I have, except I've got a glass door on the front. I've been running mine that way (witht the door shut during operation) for over a year with no problems.

Keep in mind that the 1050 includes a 6-channel amp inside. I believe that the vast majority is produced by those amps -- which is pretty unavoidable. The 1050 puts off more heat than the receiver I used prior to getting it, but that amp had fewer channels and less overall power.

Thanks guys, I feel better. I know it's not in the same class as the separate stuff Outlaw sells, but I've grown quite attached to my 1050 and don't want to hasten its death It's really a great little unit. Thanks again!
