Can someone help? I am planning on purchasing a 1050 in the coming week, I have auditioned a YAMAHA RXV620, DENON AVR3802, and SONY STR-DE1075 although some of them offered some additional features as the 1050 when it came to sound & build quality I was not impressed. Now, I looked at the HARMAN KARDON AVR-520, it sounds good, looks good and priced at $600 seems like a good buy. Has anyone made any comparisons with the two? Please let me know.

I have looked at some of the same models. Some of it depends on what you are looking for out of a receiver. Are you looking for just dolby digital/dts....etc?
I would drop the sony out of the list for sure.
The denon is a nice receiver but a little pricey.
I my self have looked at Denon's 1802 an up, Marantz 5200 and up(Marntz have DPL II and circle surround).
I am thinking of going with the outlaw 1050 considering it does have a 30 day trial period. If i don't like it I can return it.

Do you read reviews at http://www.audioreview.com/. That gives you more ideas on what people think!!!!!!!!!

I have a home theater and a pretty nice
TV room. In the home theater I had a
Sunfire Theater Grand I. I purchased a
1050 for the TV room. . ..
I use fairly high end Klipsch speakers in
both. After a week or two it hit me that
the Outlaw sounded noticeably better than
the vintage Sunfire...So, I swapped them
and the difference held up. The Outlaw is
now my home theater pre pro and the Sunfire
was banished to the Siberia of the TV room.

Now, having said that, the Sunfire sounds
sensational, but does not have the precision
and spatiality of the 1050. You can buy the
1050 AND a whole set of Klipsch speakers for
the difference in cost. ...Unless you want a
deal on my Sunfire. ...Let's see..how much
for a new 950??

Since it is now two generations from
their "state of the art" it is not worth
nearly what I paid for it. I surely would
swap it straight accross for a #950 once
the Outlaws get it sorted out.

The Sunfire lacks facility for SACD which
is driving my switch to the 950. If I could
run SACD through the 1050 I probably would
sell the Sunfire.

Honestly, the 1050 has far better functionality, ease of adjustment, tweaking, and somewhat better theater sound. I must add I am sending the signal out through a Cinema Grand Signature amp with 405 wpc. .. It is possible that has a positive effect on the sound.

Further, I am reacting subjectively
to what sounds good to me.

The 1050 has the same facility for SACD that the 950 does: a 6 channel direct analog input. The only thing it lacks is the 950's built-in fixed 80 Hz analog crossover, but this may easily be rectified by the addition of an ICBM.

The 950 can do two-channel SACD (via the stereo bypass) and multi-channel DVD-Audio without an external switchbox or manual cable-swapping, which the 1050 can't do.

This is true. But I'd assumed he was talking about multichannel SACD. I know SACD started out life as a two-channel medium, but when I think of SACD I always equate it with multichannel sound.

I agree, but I mentioned this arrangement only because I seem to recall that RAF was using it at one point while beta testing the 950. It's not likely to be typical, as the new SACD players are all multi-channel.
