I recently purchased a 1050 receiver. When I power up I hear a click and pop come thru my 4 speakers. Not Loud but definitely noticeable. When using headphones and power up there is a loud thump heard. I believe this surge must be originating from the preamp section.Scott in customer service told me this is "normal, because they don't use a muting circuit to preserve sound quality". I have 3 other receiver/amps and none of them have this problem. They are completely silent except for the soft click heard from the relay inside the unit itself. Does anyone else have this "normal" glitch with their unit?

Thanks Jockos

I also get a small pop in my speakers when turning on my 1050. Nothing major, just a small click that you can hear when your ear is near the speaker.

I haven't heard any major pops through my headphones, but then again, I usually plug them in after the unit has been turned on. I'll try that out when I get the chance.

HIFI,

Was that thump thru your headphones or the speakers?

Jason J,

Just wondering if you have gotten around to powering up with the headphones on?

Thanks
Jockos

Using the famous (of infamous) big green button on the front, the 1050 issues no pop through my headphones (Grado SR-80) when powering on or off.

If you're talking about turning on the 1050 using the master power switch on the back, that's something I don't, nor wouldn't, do. As a general practice, you really shouldn't have your headphones plugged in when you power up any device they may be attached to. This is just asking for some kind of pop to appear. Along the same lines, you really shouldn't use the master switch every time you power on or off your 1050. That lovely green button is pretty functional for that.

Thanks Jason for your reply. I am using the green button. I only get the thump thru the headphones when the unit has been off for at least 1 minute and then hit the green button. If I turn it on the off then on again it will be completely quit. Anyone else out there tried this test on their 1050?

I don't hear anything through my speakers when powering on. However, I do get a thump when I turn on my television.
