ESS AMT 1D

I'm looking to get the RR2150, and currently have a Marantz 2252B. Pure analog, but it only puts on 52 Watts. My speakers are ESS AMT 1D's, and sound a bit "tinny" with only 52 watts. The RR2150 has 100W, so my question is, would the difference in power up the performance of the speakers and get rid of the "tin" sound? Thanks everybody!

Power output has nothing to do with an amp sounding "tinny". If you're clipping your present amp, it is going to sound distorted, and different than the sound you describe. If you're not clipping the amp, a new one with more power will make no difference. Electronics can make subtle differences in sound quality, but nothing like a speaker sounding obviously "tinny" or not.

The ESS AMTs are quite efficient, over 90 dB/watt, and so should be able to driven quite cleanly to a fairly decent volume with 52 watts, unless something is broken. I drove my 1Bs for years with 50 wpc and they always sounded clean up to ear-bleed volumes.

Are the woofer and passive radiator foam surrounds in good shape?

Could you have blown the Heil tweeters?

Hey Wolverine! I think I jumped the gun by saying they sounded "tinny". I had an old 5.1 channel Yamaha amp in the garage and hooked them up to that. Though compared to the Marantz, the "musical" sound was nothing to scream about, however beings there was about 90 watts driving them, the "control" was pretty impressive. The bass was tight and as I said, that amp seemed to "control" the speakers better. Problem probably lies within the amp. The speakers don't clip, and they do sound WONDERFUL! No distortion, so sorry if I didn't explain myself correctly. Thanks for answering. P.S.: How does the phono section of the RR2150 sound?
