remote suddenly stopped working

remote suddenly stopped working - 12/06/05 12:31 AM

This afternoon, for no apparent reason, my 950 suddenly stopped responding to any commands from the remote. I have been using a Pronto TS-1000 with no problems. Battery is good, but even standing directly in front of the 950, I get zilch. Put fresh batteries in the OEM remote and same thing. Also did a soft reset (disconnected from AC for about 20 minutes), but no effect.

Something sort of like this happend about 8 or 9 months ago after I moved all of my components from the top of my big screen to an audio rack. For a day or two, the 950 was suddenly very unresponsive to the remote (very narrow angle of acceptance and needing several presses to do anything). The problem went away on its own after a couple days.

Thoughts? Help?

Thanks.
Nick

You might try a hard reset. I assume there's no obstruction in front of the IR receiver. Have you recently added any sort of IR repeater or distribution system? I've been told that having signals coming to both the front receiver and the rear input simultaneously can upset the unit in some cases. Also, if it doesn't resolve readily, I'd suggest giving Outlaw a call and getting some help from them.

Nothing changed in the system; I don't use any kind of IR repeaters; no obstructions blocking the front (stood 6" away and neither the OEM or Pronto would work on it). Pronto continues to work fine with all other components.

painttoad: I really like the clean sound of the MA-500s for full range. They don't add anything to the music and never sound like they're straining. With Klipsh speakers tending sometimes toward the bright side, the MA-500s, which lean slightly to a warmer sound, balance that out very nicely. Basically, they sound more like tube amps than transistors.

Tried soft & hard resets to no avail. Finally spoke w/ Steve @ Outlaw, went through all my troubleshooting steps, and pretty much narrowed it down to the 950. Will be packing it up to ship back. This is the second time this has happened and he's never heard of something like this that couldn't be traced to outside factors. We will see. Just hate to have to unplug everything and be without it for any prolonged period.
