Little Rear Speaker sounds with Dolby ProLogic II

Little Rear Speaker sounds with Dolby ProLogic II - 01/17/05 09:07 PM

I purchased a 950 last week and it is now happily connected to my year-old 770. I am very pleased with the 950.

My concern is that Dolby ProLogic II is not working as anticipated, both in the Music and Cinema modes. When listening to analog sources (TV, music, etc) there is very little sound coming from the rear speakers. It is the same with a wide variety of sources, including VHS tapes, new and old music, and network and local TV. Here are the settings:
Panorama - On
Dimension - Step 3
Center Width - Step 5

Any thoughts on what settings will produce more sounds from the rear speakers?

BTW, my previous surround sound processor was a 10-year old Fosgate, and it produced plenty of sound in the rear channels, even with Panorama set to the middle (neutral) position.

Are these set up as the surround speakers or as the rear surrounds?

Reading from the choices on the on-screen display, they are set up as right and left surround, and not right and left back

Check to make sure your surrounds are connected in phase. I've had my system for about 4 months now couldn't figure out why right surround played louder than the left until I checked the wiring. The left surround speakers was wired out of phase.
