Are all 950's the same?? - 12/06/04 11:42 PM

I have a chance to buy one that is about 2 years old but in perfect shape. Are they all the same or have there been some updates over the years?
Thanks,
Joe

They are pretty much all the same, we have had only one update that I know about and that was with the no LFE DTS-ES Bug. There were some blue dot units that were early production.

With a two year old 950 (purchased new in late 2002), you would want to confirm that it was purchased after 12/17/2002 - the date when all new 950's incorporated the "blue dot" revision to the analog signal path. If it was shipped to the original owner prior to that, they had the option to get the blue dot revisions free (either by sending their unit in for modification or swapping it for a modified unit), in which case there would be a blue "dot" sticker next to the serial number.

In April 2003, Outlaw released a software fix for a bug in the DTS-ES software. MeanGene's link will take you to the page where the fix can be requested, but first I'd find out if the unit you are looking at has received the fix.

I have just recently bought a 950, but there is no blue (or red) dot on the back. On what way can I check if this model has been updated? And do you think that Outlaw Service will also send me the eprom to The Netherlands?

I did forgot to mention that this is a second hand. I'm not sure how old he is.

Do you know when the previous owner purchased it? 950's manufactured after December 17, 2002 should not have any dot on them, as they started out life as the "blue dot" version. Likewise, if it was shipped from Outlaw after some time in March 2003 it already has the DTS-ES update. If you can ask the previous owner when he bought it (and if it was prior to March '03 if he did the DTS-ES fix), that would answer all of your questions. If not, contact Outlaw (they have a tech support site if you don't want to call from overseas) and give them your serial number. It may take them a couple days to get back to you right now, though - much of their staff is in New York this weekend for a trade show.

hi, I'm about to purchase one from late '02. I'm not sure of the exact purchase date, but probably before DEC 17, so I'll probably need the blue dot revision. My question is this: how much does it cost if I have this done by Outlaw? Can they tell me it's status if I give them the s/n? Thanks

If you can give them the serial number they can tell you whether or not it is up to the blue dot revision level and if it has received the DTS-ES chip. They can also tell you what it might cost (it may be a warranty item, and the warranty of course is transferrable).
