First post on this site, really enjoyed the site so far.

Question:

Was pretty close to purchasing a Denon 4802R but bailed on the last minute to consider seperates once again.

I have heard the Rotel & Adcom but never side by side with the Denon and never on the same speakers, so it was never a slam dunk on what to go with. But the Rotel and Adcom never impressed me enough to focus on seperates exclusively.

I like the Denon but it is more expensive and I don't like the idea of spending more than I have to to get THX Ultra 2 and a bunch of Home Theater stuff.

Don't get me wrong I love great movie soundtracks, but car chases and shotgun blasts aren't going to bring tears to my eyes the way good vinyl can.

I want to buy one system and I want it to play movies great, but I don't want to sacrifice 2 channel analog quality (within reason I am not spending more than 2-3 K on receiver or seperates).

Bottom line....Will the outlaw combo 950 and 7100 wow me in 2 channel stereo? Vinyl and CD?

other componets:

Music Hall 7
Mirage OM 7

I will be adding the matching Mirage OMC2 and OMR2 and a sub (haven't decided yet)

Had old Marantz pre/power circa 1970 and it fried up, everything else has been in storage until I got settled into my home.

Now it's time to buy.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

I would think that the Outlaw combo would perform AT LEAST as well as the Denon, plus you'll have the flexibility of separates.

I have A LOT of vinyl and the Outlaw 950 (with non-Outlaw Aragon amp) serves my collection very well. A tube-based preamp might offer a richer listening experience but -- if you're going solid-state -- I think the Outlaw is right in there for two-channel performance, particularly if you choose your outboard phono preamp carefully.

I'm currently using the 950/ICBM/7100 combo with Mirage speakers (M3si, OMC2, OMR2), and I've been extremely impressed with their performance overall. My only source is a Sony DVP-9000ES DVD/SACD/CD player, so playback is exclusively CD or DVD for me.

Because I use two subs (SVS 25-31PC+) and filter everything below 60hz to the subs, I chose the smaller amp for my modestly sized room (13.5' x 15'), even though the M3si are rather inefficient. I haven't been disappointed so far. And I've found the CD playback using analog bypass to be very, very good.

I expect that it's sound isn't quite as detailed or effortless as the megabuck systems I've owned in the past, but there's plenty of toe-tap factor for two-channel listening, and the movie playback is top-notch. I bet the Music Hall TT would sound absolutely fantastic.

In general, I think the low price of the combo causes people to underestimate its performance considerably. Sonically, I don't think Outlaw's combos can be beat by *anything* for less than twice the price.
